Reflection
Please discuss at least one connection you've made between what you've studied in this LW course and what you’ve learned from other courses you have taken at SLCC (or other institution) or have learned before taking this class? Make specific references to your work in this class and in other courses. How did what you learned in other courses enhance what you learned here, and vice versa?
When I look back on previous classes, I have learned some discipline to ensure that my assignments are turned in on time and that my participation is up to par with the class. With my Intro to Meditation class, I have learned several new skills that I can take with me into all of my classes. I have learned to be more mindful in everything that I am doing and to listen to my body as it speaks to what it needs. I have found that in previous classes, I was getting overwhelmed and shutting down, and I was not being mindful of my needs. With my LW class, I can take the new skills and balance out my life and my school life. I am forever grateful for my Instructor and the skills she has helped me learn, and I will continue to grow throughout my life.
Reflect on what you thought about fitness and lifelong wellness before you took this course and how you think about it now that you have completed the course. Have any of your assumptions or understandings changed? Why? What assignments/activities/readings were influential in this process? How will you approach what influenced you differently in the future?
When I went into my Intro to Meditation class, I had little hope of getting anything from it. I have tried mediation in the past and had not had good experiences, and I felt like a failure any time I tried. I was desperate to learn because I truly thought meditation could help with processing some of my trauma. My entire perspective has changed, and I feel that it is because of this course. It taught me that there is not one way to meditate, but meditation is different for every person. I have learned different types of mediation that fit what I need. My weekly discussions with all of my classmates showed me that everyone has a different mediation style that fits their needs. The weekly meditation logs and journaling have been something that I have enjoyed. I can track what meditations I have tried and what has and has not worked for me. The in-class practices have given me a baseline for different mediations that I can continue to explore. I plan on continuing to explore more mediation and build my tool kit for my future.
Signature Assignment
Signature Assignment Reflection
I chose the 4 A's of Stress Management because my life is complete chaos and I feel stressed every day. I have never dealt with stress very well and I tend to spiral when I am under a lot of stress. Learning tools to help me manage stress to make my life easier is something that I strive for. Not only did this assignment give me some great tools to take into future situations but the overall class has been amazing.
